Priorities for Basecamp 5
Overview
Adds the missing priority feature to Basecamp 5. Organize tasks by importance and never lose track of what matters most.
Priorities for Basecamp 5 adds the priority management feature that's missing from app.basecamp.com. Tag every to-do as High, Medium or Low, then see, filter, sort and re-prioritise across every list, board and project — without leaving Basecamp. WHAT YOU GET 🏷 Priority labels Color-coded HIGH / MED / LOW / NONE badges on every to-do and Card Table card. Appear automatically throughout Basecamp once you've set a priority. ✅ Priority selector on every form Set the priority while creating a new to-do or card, when editing one, or with a single click on the detail page. Works with Basecamp's native rich text (Lexxy) editor. 🔍 Filter by priority On any to-do list, todoset or Card Table, narrow down to just the items at the priority level you need. Counter shows how many items match. 👤 Filter by assignee (NEW in v2) Right next to the priority filter, a dropdown lets you focus on a specific person — Everyone, Unassigned, or any teammate present on the page. Combines with the priority filter. 📋 "My tasks by priority" view A new tab next to "My tasks / with dates / Stuff I've assigned" (inside Basecamp's "My Tasks" panel) that regroups your entire backlog by priority (High → Medium → Low → None), sub-grouped by project and list with the native star/circle icons. Drag any item between priority sections to re-prioritise it. ↕ Sort by priority On any to-do list or Card Table, sort items by Date-then-Priority or Priority-then-Date. Your preference syncs across devices. 💾 Save the order in Basecamp (NEW in v2.5) Sorting is normally just your own view. On a Card Table you can now save it: one click writes that order back into Basecamp itself, so the board reads top-down by importance for everyone — including teammates who don't have the extension. Cards on hold are ordered within On hold, and the Done column is left alone. ✈️ Offline reading for Card Tables (NEW in v2.5) Basecamp renders every page on the server, so with no connection there's nothing to read — not even a cached copy. Turn this on, pick the boards you want kept, and they're saved — columns, priorities, assignees with their real photos, due dates, steps and full comment threads — then rendered from a page built to look like the board itself, not a report about it, and that never touches the network once saved. Off by default, and nothing is stored until you click "Save offline" on a specific board. 📊 Priority progress Each to-do list header shows a quick High/Med/Low breakdown next to Basecamp's completion count. 📁 Tidy up your folders (NEW in v2.3) Optional setting: when you open a folder on the Basecamp home screen, the projects inside it are listed starred-first and alphabetically — starred A to Z, then the rest A to Z. Off by default, one toggle in the popup, applies instantly, and your home screen layout is never touched. ⚡ Instant on second visit Priorities are cached locally so labels appear instantly on subsequent loads. A background refresh keeps them up to date so changes by teammates show within a couple of seconds. HOW IT WORKS Priorities are stored inside each to-do's own description field using a small tag (e.g. [PRIORITY: High]) at the top. Because the data lives in Basecamp itself, it syncs across every device and every teammate automatically — no external servers, no separate database, no extra accounts. This means: if your colleague installs the extension too, they see the same priorities you set. If they don't, the tag is just invisible text at the top of the to-do's notes. Card order works differently, and on purpose. When you save a Card Table's order, Basecamp's own stored order changes — the same thing that happens when you drag a card by hand. So the board reads by priority for the whole team, whether or not they run the extension. PRIVACY • Runs only on app.basecamp.com • Does NOT collect or transmit any personal data • Stores only your own preferences and copies of your own data: the sort order, the folder-sorting toggle and the offline-reading toggle in Chrome's synced extension storage; a cache of the priority labels and, if you turn on offline reading, a copy of the boards you pick, in local Chrome storage on your machine • Nothing is ever sent anywhere — offline copies stay on your computer and are deleted when you turn the board off • Uses your existing Basecamp session — no extra logins, no API keys Open source. If you still use Basecamp 3, the v1 build remains available in the source repository under legacy/. SUPPORT Found a bug or want a feature? Open an issue on GitHub. Like the extension?
