Multi-language Virtual Keyboard for Google Chrome
Multi-language Keyboard 3.1 — What's New Version 3.1 is a ground-up rebuild. The 152 keyboard layouts you rely on are unchanged, but almost everything around them has been rewritten to be faster, clearer, and genuinely usable in your own language. TYPE IN YOUR LANGUAGE FROM THE FIRST SECOND The keyboard used to open in Albanian for everyone, every single time, and forgot your choice the moment you closed the tab. That is fixed. The keyboard now opens in a layout matched to your browser's language, and it remembers the layout you picked — across tabs, across sessions, and across every computer you sign in to. FIND YOUR LANGUAGE IN SECONDS The old list showed 152 raw internal names like "ms-Bengali - INSCRIPT (Legacy)" in a single unsearchable dropdown. The new picker shows each language in your own interface language, next to how speakers actually write it — Bengali beside বাংলা, Russian beside Русский. Type a few letters to filter, in English or in your language. Star the layouts you use most and they stay pinned at the top, with your recent choices just below. TYPE STRAIGHT INTO ANY PAGE The biggest new feature. Open the keyboard in Chrome's side panel and it types directly into whatever field you have focused — a document, an email, a search box, a login form. No more typing into a scratch box and copying the result across. This is entirely optional: the extension asks for permission to reach the page only at the moment you switch the feature on, and never before. TYPE WITH THE KEYBOARD YOU ALREADY HAVE Turn on "Use my real keyboard" and your physical keys produce the script you have selected. Press Q on an ordinary QWERTY board and get й in Russian, ض in Arabic, ή in Greek. Every layout is mapped, including its Shift and AltGr levels. Your shortcuts still work — Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and Ctrl+A are never swallowed. TYPE BY SOUND Spell a word in Latin letters and watch it convert as you type. "shkola" becomes школа, "namaste" becomes नमस्ते, "konnichiwa" becomes こんにちわ, "shalom" becomes שלום. Available for Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Macedonian, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, Georgian, Armenian, Japanese kana and Devanagari, with proper handling of the details that usually go wrong — Greek word-final sigma, Japanese syllabic n, Hebrew final letter forms, and Devanagari conjuncts. RIGHT-TO-LEFT, DONE PROPERLY Around 15 of the shipped layouts are right-to-left. They previously rendered in the wrong direction, which made them unusable for real writing. Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu, Syriac, Divehi, Pashto and Uyghur now flip the editor and the keyboard correctly, with the cursor where it belongs. THE INTERFACE IN YOUR LANGUAGE The extension shipped 44 language folders containing exactly two translated words between them; everything you actually saw was English. Every button, label, hint, error and screen-reader announcement is now translated into all 44 supported languages. Numbers appear in your own numerals where that is the convention. MORE WAYS TO WORK A toolbar with Copy, Cut, Select all, Clear and Save, plus live character and word counts. A panel of punctuation, currency, mathematical symbols, arrows, accents and emoji. Saved snippets you can re-insert with one click. Light, dark and high-contrast themes, and a slider to make the keys larger or smaller. Keyboard shortcuts to open the keyboard (Alt+Shift+K) and jump back to your previous layout (Alt+Shift+L). Your draft is saved automatically, so an accidental close no longer costs you your text. Send your text to Google Search, YouTube, Google Translate or Wikipedia in the language you are typing. DRAMATICALLY SMALLER AND FASTER The download has gone from 7.0 MB to 360 KB — a 95% reduction. Roughly five and a half megabytes of the old package was never used at all: a duplicate copy of jQuery, a duplicate copy of Bootstrap, unused libraries, and image files belonging to an entirely different product. All of it is gone. Layout data now loads only for the layout you are actually using, instead of parsing all 152 on every launch. FIXED IN THIS RELEASE The Google Search and YouTube buttons often reported "no data input" over text you could plainly see, because they read the wrong element. Clicking the toolbar icon opened a new tab every time instead of returning you to the one already open. The browser tab was titled "Document". Searches were sent to YouTube over an unencrypted connection. The page could not be resized without scrolling sideways. Saved text was inserted as raw markup rather than plain text, a security flaw that is now impossible by construction. Error messages were blocking English pop-ups; they are now quiet, translated, and undoable. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS What you type never leaves your device. The extension makes no network requests, collects no analytics, and contains no tracking of any kind. It installs with three permissions and no access to any website. It works entirely offline.
