Tagfire Live Tag Debugger
Overview
Watch GA4 beacons and GTM/gtag dataLayer pushes fire in real time as you browse — without leaving your browser.
The Tagfire Live Tag Debugger is the companion browser extension for the Tagfire Live Tag Debugger tool. Attach it to any tab and watch every analytics hit the page fires — decoded, correlated, and evaluated — in real time. What it captures - GA4 beacons — every hit to google-analytics.com/g/collect, Measurement Protocol, and server-side GTM endpoints, with the URL and POST body fully decoded into named parameters. - GTM and gtag dataLayer pushes — every dataLayer.push(...) and gtag(...) call made by your site, with the pushed object rendered in a readable form. - Page diagnostics — which GTM containers are present, whether the snippet sits in <head> (per spec), whether window.dataLayer got destructively reassigned, and where SPA route changes happen. Why it is useful - Pairs each dataLayer push with the GA4 beacon it triggered, so you can see whether the event you fired actually became the hit you expected — and which Measurement ID it went to. - Link your GTM container export and the correlation becomes deterministic: exact event names, exact Measurement IDs, exact triggers. No more guessing which tag fired what. - Evaluations flag common problems automatically — duplicate page_views, GA4 events missing currency on a value, e-commerce items without an item_id, snippets in <body>, dataLayer resets, and more. - Record a flow once — clicks, form edits, submits, navigations — and replay it to check the same tags still fire. How it works Capture is scoped to a single tab you explicitly attach from the popup — no traffic from any other tab is observed. Captured hits are streamed only into the Tagfire Live Tag Debugger tab, in your browser, over the page's own window.postMessage channel. Nothing is sent to Tagfire's servers. Privacy in one line No telemetry. No remote servers. No accounts required. Full policy: https://tagfire.app/extension-privacy To get started 1. Install the extension. 2. Open the Live Tag Debugger at https://tagfire.app/app/tools/live-debugger. 3. Click the Tagfire icon in your toolbar on the tab you want to debug and choose "Capture this tab". 4. Switch back to the debugger tab — hits stream in live.
