Overview
Per-tab parametric EQ: live spectrum, limiter, boost, per-site & YouTube-channel presets, custom themes. Local-only, no tracking.
Tab EQ turns any tab into a studio-grade parametric equalizer. Unlike the fixed 10-slider equalizers in most extensions, Tab EQ gives you a real, draggable frequency-response curve - the same interaction pro audio tools use. Grab a point, move it in frequency and gain, scroll to change its width, and hear the change instantly. ---- Why people love it: ---- - True parametric curve editor - drag nodes, double-click to add/remove bands, scroll for Q, or type exact values. Peak, shelf, high/low-pass and notch filters. - Live spectrum analyzer behind the curve - EQ what you actually see. - Volume boost to 600% for quiet tabs, with a built-in limiter + auto-preamp so loud boosts never distort. (Distortion is the #1 complaint about other boosters - Tab EQ fixes that.) - Per-tab - every tab gets its own independent EQ. - Per-site & per-YouTube-channel memory - save an EQ for a whole domain, or for a specific YouTube channel, and it auto-applies next time - even as you switch between videos on that channel. Plus genre presets and your own saved presets. - Full theming - built-in Light, Dark and colored presets, or customize every color by hex value and save your own theme. The whole interface, including the graph and knobs, recolors live. - Instant Bypass - compare your EQ against the original audio with one click, no dropout. - Flatten - back to neutral in one click. - Keyboard shortcuts, a full-screen editor, and one-click enable (it turns on when you open it on a tab). ---- Private by design: ---- - Requests the absolute minimum permissions - no browsing history, no host permissions, no standing access to any site. (On YouTube it reads only the current channel name, locally, to remember your per-channel EQ.) - 100% local - audio and theming are processed in your browser. No network requests, no accounts, no analytics, no ads. - Works in Chrome, Brave, Edge and other Chromium browsers. ---- About the "read and change all your data" permission ---- Chrome shows this warning for any extension that uses the tab-audio-capture API - it is not something we can turn off. But here is exactly what Tab EQ can and cannot do: - ✅ It receives the audio of a tab only after you click "Enable EQ" on that tab. - ❌ It cannot read the page's text, forms, passwords, cookies, or history. - ❌ It requests no website host permissions and adds no background page access. - ℹ️ On YouTube it reads the channel name of the active tab (via `activeTab`+`scripting`, no warning, no network) so it can remember your EQ per channel - nothing else on the page is used or stored. We deliberately chose tab capture over the "content script" approach that some equalizers use. Content scripts show a friendlier install prompt but actually get full read/write access to every page and break on many sites. Tab capture is the genuinely more private and more reliable design.
