TOTP stands for time-based one-time password. A TOTP authenticator turns a secret key, shared once when you enable two-factor authentication, into a short numeric code that changes every 30 seconds. The website runs the same calculation, so both sides arrive at the same code without exchanging anything. What is a 2FA code? A 2FA code is the second piece of proof a site asks for after your password - usually six digits from an authenticator app. It exists so that a stolen password alone is not enough to get into your account. What is the difference between OTP and TOTP? OTP is the general term for a one-time password. TOTP is the specific kind that is derived from the current time, which is what authenticator apps and extensions like 2Fa Live generate. Codes sent by SMS or email are also OTPs, but they are not TOTP. Can I generate TOTP codes in Chrome? Yes. That is exactly what 2Fa Live does. Once an account is added, its authentication code is available from the toolbar popup, the Chrome side panel or the full dashboard. Can I manage multiple 2FA accounts? Yes.
