1080p Lock
Overview
Keep video quality at 1080p or lower on supported streaming websites. Higher resolutions are never selected.
Video quality, up to 1080p. 1080p Lock automatically selects accessible video quality at or below 1080p on supported desktop web players. It prefers 1080p at the highest available frame rate; if that is unavailable, it selects the best accessible lower quality. Its automatic selections never choose a resolution above 1080p, even when 1440p or 4K is offered. Supported players include desktop YouTube and Twitch, plus the additional streaming service linked as “the other supported player” in the extension's help. Chrome lists the exact service hosts in its website-access settings. This is not an extension for every video website. Support depends on recognizable native quality controls; Shorts, clips, mobile layouts and arbitrary embedded players are not guaranteed. 1080p Lock is independent of the services it supports. • Selects accessible 1080p60 or 1080p when offered. • Uses the best accessible quality below 1080p when needed. • Reapplies the preference after page, video or player quality changes. • Shows the quality confirmed in the player's menu. • Lets you pause for the current video or stream, or turn automatic selection off. • Includes Apply again to retry a selection and built-in setup help. • Waits while you type or use the player. After installation, allow access to the supported services you use, reload their pages, and check selected quality in the toolbar popup. Pause for this stream lets you choose a different quality manually. Changing videos or reloading clears that temporary pause. Websites may begin or reset playback in Auto before their controls are ready. Automatic adjustments wait for an idle, focused page in the normal player, outside fullscreen or picture-in-picture. Automatic recovery is bounded on YouTube and Twitch; Apply again remains available when another check is needed. This extension limits the qualities it selects; it cannot guarantee every moment of playback remains at that quality and is not a bandwidth cap. Quality depends on the source, your account access and your connection. This extension does not unlock premium or restricted quality, start trials, or increase a video's resolution. If fixed quality causes buffering, pause or turn off the extension and choose a lower quality or Auto. While paused or off, you can choose any quality manually. The extension uses native quality menus and, where applicable, the website's saved local quality preference. A menu may appear briefly during an adjustment. It does not click the video, seek, change volume, download media or host streams. The popup reports the selected setting, not measured video delivery or connection speed. Privacy: your on/off preference stays in Chrome's local extension storage. Stream pause is temporary and stays in memory. The current supported-site address, player controls and video information are processed on your device to perform quality selection. The extension does not transmit them to the developer. No developer account, analytics, tracking or remote code. Supported websites may store their own quality preferences locally. Optional support and privacy links open in your browser. What's new in 1.1.0 A new 1080p Lock identity, support for desktop YouTube and Twitch, and a strict ceiling on automatic quality selections. Refined confirmation, recovery and popup controls keep the selected quality and pending actions clear. Website access now includes the added supported services. By Robin's Digital Designs.
