Overview

Convert a placeholder to a value.

The placeholder is available as a value from the right-click context menu when a placeholder is set in a text field. Note 1: This extension cannot run on some Google-owned pages (e.g. the Chrome Web Store) due to Chrome's platform restrictions. Note 2: Some placeholders with special implementations are not supported. ## v1.2.0 - Add: Right-click "insert placeholder" now also works on `contenteditable` elements, including rich-text editors such as ProseMirror and Quill. - Add: Also reads `aria-placeholder` and the text referenced by `aria-describedby` when a field has no native `placeholder`, so placeholders from some special/custom implementations can now be picked up too. - Add: Works on local `file://` HTML pages too, once you enable "Allow access to file URLs" for this extension. - Fix: Dynamic forms that rewrite the placeholder between opening the context menu and clicking the menu item now insert the latest placeholder text. - Fix: No longer inserts into a stale field after focus has moved elsewhere between opening the context menu and clicking the menu item. - Change: Menu label is now localized (English/Japanese) via Chrome's built-in i18n. ## v1.1.1 - Fix: Right-click "insert placeholder" now works immediately on tabs that were already open when you install, update, or re-enable the extension — no more reloading pages to pick it up. - Change: Extension name changed from "Placeholder into value" to "Placeholder to value". ## v1.1.0 - Fix: Works correctly on form fields built with frameworks like React or Vue, and on elements inside Shadow DOM — previously the inserted value could fail to register or the field could go undetected. - Improve: Inserted text now dispatches a proper `input` event with `inputType` set, so pages that key off `inputType` behave correctly. - Change: Reduced the extension's permissions from access to all sites to "only when you use it" (activeTab), improving privacy. - Require Chrome 120 or later. ## v1.0.0 - Stable release: Right-click any input, textarea, or editable field and choose "Placeholder into value" to insert the field's placeholder text as its value. - Also dispatches an `input` event (in addition to `change`) so frameworks with controlled inputs pick up the inserted value.
