The extension attempts to reduce or block “read” status updates and read receipts in Google Chat, including when using Google Chat inside Gmail, with a quick toggle, test mode, blocking strength settings, and contact-based exception management. In short: the extension allows you to open and check messages in Google Chat more quietly, without every conversation view immediately marking the message as read for the other side. In addition, you can choose whether to block read receipts for everyone, allow read receipts only for specific contacts, or do the opposite – allow read receipts for everyone and block them only for selected contacts. In the digital work environment, we receive many messages throughout the day: from customers, suppliers, employees, partners, and other contacts. It is not always convenient to reply immediately, and sometimes you just want to check what the message is about before deciding when to respond. In practice, when you open a conversation in Google Chat, the other side may see that the message was read and expect an immediate reply. Chat Quiet was created for exactly these situations: to allow calmer message reading, without unnecessary pressure and without committing to reply right away.
